Loneliness and isolation are feelings that almost every immigrant can identify with. They come out to a big city and are completely disconnected from the community they were familiar with.Even if a person has friends or a partner here with them, when something goes wrong, not having family around can make things even harder. Some never settle fully.

I documented the new life of Mirjana, a 51 yer old Serbian immigrant living in Oslo. She decided to leave her country 3 years ago in hope of a better education for her son. In Serbia she used to work as a journalist for many years, so she used to socialise a lot, she was well known. Now she leaves in the Norwegian capital and works as a cook. Here in Norway, besides her son, she doesn't have that many friends so she gets lonely from time to time. She says that she loves it here, even though she doesn't speak the language and she wants to stay and learn.
